Yarning With Plants - A New Book on Plant Communication

The Banksia Mummas

Have you ever wanted to learn the art of plant whispering?

This year, I was one of six women who each spent over eight months building a relationship with an Australian native plant, guided by Heidi, and then writing about our journeys, for our soon to be released book Yarning with Plants. Heidi opens the book by teaching the art of plant communication, followed by our six journeys.

On reflection, what surprised me the most was how deep and intimate my relationship became with my plants, the Banksias. I saw that same depth of connection grow between the other women and their plants as our journeys progressed over the months.

Another surprise was the way the Banksias, over time, gently held me and slowly began to show me one of my deepest, long-held patterns, one that had caused me to abandon myself over and over. It had been weaving its way through my life since I was a very small child. Eventually they showed me how this wound that I carry could become my gift.

What does it take to learn the art of plant whispering, you may ask?

Being open-minded and curious and wanting to connect. It also takes time, patience, respect and trust. There will be times of deep listening, observing and noticing the little things. It’s just like building an intimate relationship with another human being, only this time it’s with a plant being.

There really is no difference!

What I do know is that the rewards are many and your life will be so much richer for it.
